National Work Zone Awareness Week
This week (April 21-25, 2025) is Work Zone Awareness Week. Every year, the construction industry comes together to observe this week as a critical reminder for everyone to stay vigilant, respect work zones, and prioritize safety. The theme this year is "Respect the Zone, So We All Get Home”, which is a call to action for drivers, workers, and communities alike to be more mindful of the risks and responsibilities in work zones. This week, we take the time to highlight the importance of work zone safety, ensuring that everyone on and around construction sites goes home safely at the end of the day.
Why Work Zone Awareness Week Matters
Work zones are essential to maintaining and improving the infrastructure that keeps our communities moving. Whether it's repaving roads, building new bridges, or upgrading utilities, construction workers put in countless hours to ensure the safety and comfort for civilians in the future. Unfortunately, work zones are also some of the most hazardous places for both workers and drivers.
For construction workers, the risks in work zones are very real. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, work zone crashes lead to more than 100 fatalities and thousands of injuries annually. On top of that, drivers who speed, drive recklessly, or aren’t paying attention to the road signs create even more hazards. The goal of this week is to raise awareness so that everyone involved takes the necessary precautions to keep themselves and others safe.
“Respect the Zone, So We All Get Home”
This year’s theme sends a powerful message: safety is a shared responsibility. The risks in work zones aren’t just faced by construction workers; drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists must also take precautions to ensure a safe environment for all.
It’s crucial for drivers to slow down, pay attention, and follow the directions of flaggers and road signs. By adhering to posted speed limits, avoiding distractions, and staying alert, we can significantly reduce the chances of accidents. Construction workers, on the other hand, are doing everything they can to ensure their safety (like wearing proper vests and hard hats), but it’s up to the rest of us to make sure they can do their jobs without the fear of harm.
How You Can Participate in Work Zone Awareness Week
There are plenty of ways to get involved and raise awareness this week and every week after:
Go Orange for Safety: On April 25, 2025, we’re celebrating Go Orange Day as a way to show support for work zone safety. Wearing orange, whether it’s an orange t-shirt, a hat, or a simple ribbon, helps demonstrate your commitment to raising awareness about work zone safety, and sends a powerful message to all drivers and construction workers that safety is a top priority.
Drive Responsibly in Work Zones: If you're on the road during Work Zone Awareness Week (and beyond!), be extra cautious when you approach work zones. Slow down, avoid distractions, and always follow any signs or flagger instructions. These small actions make a big difference in keeping everyone safe.
Spread the Word: This whole week, we will be sharing safety tips on our social media channels. We hope to encourage others to be mindful of construction zones and the lives at stake. Take to your own social media to spread the message of work zone safety!
Support Construction Workers: Take a moment to recognize the hardworking men and women in the construction industry. They are on the frontlines, often working in dangerous conditions, to build the infrastructure we rely on daily. Take a moment to acknowledge the dedication and effort these workers put into keeping us safe in work zones.

Safety Starts with YOU!
In the world of construction, we know that building something great takes collaboration, care, and attention to detail. The same goes for building a culture of safety in work zones. From the workers on the ground to the drivers on the road, we all play a part in ensuring that every worker goes home safely at the end of the day.
Let’s make Work Zone Awareness Week a reminder of the collective responsibility we share to protect each other. Together, we can respect the zone, make the roads safer, and ensure that everyone gets home safely.
So, let’s wear our orange with pride, drive carefully, and always remember: Respect the Zone, So We All Get Home!
Stay safe, and see you on the road!
